About me
I received my Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in psychology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Health & Medical psychology (M.Sc.) from Leiden University. In my studies, I have specialised in clinical psychology with a focus on the assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, stress and lack of motivation. I have also delved into the development and treatment of mental health complaints for individuals with chronic somatic conditions.
As the final part of my Master’s degree, I am currently undertaking a clinical internship at the MacFarlane Psychology Group. In this capacity, I will be offering therapy at a reduced rate, while being supervised by Peter MacFarlane, Ph.D.
Though originally from Denmark, I have lived and worked abroad for 25 years in London and Amsterdam, giving me valuable insight into the challenges of adapting to a new culture and lifestyle as an expat.
My journey into psychology began later in life, following a career in family law where I helped clients navigate complex and emotional challenges. I was inspired by the resilience of individuals and the positive impact compassionate support and guidance can have during such difficult times. These experiences fueled my interest in human behavior and relationships, ultimately leading me to study and train to become a psychologist.
Approach
I tailor each therapeutic approach to the unique needs of my clients, with a focus on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel supported in exploring your concerns and working toward meaningful change.
Individuals
In my individual therapy work, I primarily draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). CBT helps people recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns, while ACT focuses on building psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult emotions and stay committed to value-based actions. Together, these approaches provide a practical and supportive foundation for managing stress, anxiety, depression and other emotional challenges.
Couples
Having witnessed the intense pain divorce can bring to individuals and families, I am passionate about working with couples to identify and work on their strengths and challenges and help prevent relationship breakdown.
I am trained in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy and apply this approach in my work. The Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to relationship therapy that focuses on improving communication, managing conflict and strengthening emotional connection. Through practical tools and techniques, it helps couples build a strong foundation, deepen their understanding of each other, and create lasting, positive change in their relationship.
