Psychotherapy
I believe that we all have the resources within ourselves to achieve what we want out of life and become who we really are at our core. However, for various reasons these resources can be blocked or simply not properly developed. This can change through the process of psychotherapy. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, and life experiences and I will help you promote a more useful and gentler way to understand and relate to yourself and others. I will help you uncover the sources of the pain and difficulties you are dealing with. Together we will identify goals you have for yourself and create viable solutions for the problems you are facing.
I primarily use a psychoanalytic approach. This means that we will at times explore experiences from your past in order to better understand how these may still influence what you are dealing with currently, and if you unwillingly let these old patterns get in your way. When appropriate, I also draw on Cognitive Behavioral techniques and models, which means working on changing your negative, and at times distorted, thought patterns and behavior which will then make you feel better.
If you are dealing with relationship issues, I will use Family Systems Theory which is very helpful in understanding how we as individuals influence each other and are part of a larger emotional unit.
I seek to create an empathic environment where you feel properly listened to and understood and you can be honest with yourself and me. This will greatly enhance the therapeutic experience and outcome.
