PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
Within the field of psychotherapy, I chose to pursue an education within systemic and solution-oriented therapy and counselling (Isi Institute in Berlin, Germany). My focus has been on working with expats, migrants and the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, I volunteer for an organisation that supports the socially vulnerable population, who has limited or no access to the established health care system.
My mission is to facilitate personal growth and healing in the larger world.
Before becoming a therapist, I pursued a multidisciplinary B.A. and M.Sc. in Business, Language, and Culture, and worked for seven years at an international communication agency where I managed client relationships. This experience gave me a good understanding of the corporate setting, including its corporate culture and organisational politics, while also making me aware of the potential stress and conflict inherent within. My fascination with the human experience and relationships prompted me to seek further academic and professional expertise in the area of psychotherapy in my early thirties.
SPEAKING PERSONALLY
I was the third out of four children, and grew up in rural Southern Germany. My home was marked by the close family ties and the traditional values of the 80s. In my adolescence I realised I was gay, which forced me to stretch the reality I was born into. The world around me felt too small, without the space for being different. I sought to emancipate myself from certain conventions, a catholic upbringing and heteronormativity. What followed was a journey of self-discovery, of exploring diversity and cultures, and of attempting to find my place in the world.
I speak German, English, Spanish, and Portuguese and have lived for longer periods of time in Spain, Portugal, China, Sri Lanka, France and since 2015, in Denmark.
HOW I WORK AND WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Systemic therapy focuses on you as an individual, recognizing that your challenges and struggles exist in a broader context. To find solutions, we will explore this context of yours; meaning your relationships, family (both chosen and of origin), work environment, social structures, internalized thoughts, beliefs, and feelings.
The therapeutic process can be understood as a facilitation of personal growth in which you will experience and become aware of aspects of your personality and be able to relate in different and more useful ways to yourself. The goal is to be more self-directing, self-effective and self-confident; to become more your own person, more understanding, more accepting of yourself and others and, ultimately, able to cope with challenges more adequately and more comfortably. This approach empowers you by leveraging your strengths and abilities and supports you in unlocking your full potential.
WHAT I OFFER
I offer a short-term approach (1-10 sessions) while exploring specific problems of the here and now. This approach focuses on the implementation of concrete solutions and your goals.
Besides that, I also offer a therapeutic process that helps you achieve your goals in life and become the person who you truly are. We’ll look into more complex issues and widen the perspective, for example, to relationships, work environment, thoughts, feelings.
My focus:
- Identity exploration (Who am I?)
- LGBTQ+
- Low self-esteem
- Low mood / lack of finding enjoyment in life
- Relationship conflicts
- Work related stress including corporate conflicts
- Anxiety and worry
